Iran Secures Oil Export Waivers Amid US Talks
US-Iran talks concluded in Switzerland on Monday, with Tehran securing waivers for oil and petrochemical exports. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that his country had obtained exemptions for these exports, as well as the release of some frozen assets and the launch of a reconstruction and development plan.
The news led to a decline in global oil prices, with Brent crude falling $1.35 at $79.22 a barrel by 1009 GMT. UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo attributed the drop to the progress made between the US and Iran during their talks.
High-ranking officials from both countries wrapped up their first round of discussions in Switzerland on Monday, with mediators announcing the conclusion of the talks. The US had threatened to restart the war on Iran earlier this month, causing oil prices to spike.
