Iran Sets Seven-Day Deadline for US to Lift Blockade

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi unveiled a proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks on its nuclear program in seven days. The plan hinges on the US lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waiving sanctions on Iranian oil sales, and observing a ceasefire that includes Lebanon.

The proposal would also restart stalled talks between Iran and the US on the country's nuclear program, according to Araghchi. He emphasized that the seven-day timeline will commence as soon as the United States accepts this plan.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway through which a fifth of the world's traded oil and gas transited before the war. Iran's disruption of the strait has had far-reaching consequences, posing political problems for President Donald Trump and his Republican Party ahead of November's midterm congressional elections.
