Iran Stands Firm on Strait of Hormuz Conditions Amid Trump Rejection
Iran has refused to back down on its conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, despite US President Donald Trump's rejection of its seven-day proposal. The plan, presented by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the UN General Assembly in New York, calls for an end to all hostilities in the Middle East and the fulfillment of conditions contained in a ceasefire agreement that collapsed months ago.
The agreement includes the release of frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil, and an end to the US naval blockade. Trump publicly rejected Iran's proposal on Saturday, saying he 'rejected their deal' because they want to make a deal where they open the Strait immediately because they're losing so badly.
Araghchi said Iran had taken note of Trump's comments but had not received an official response through Qatari mediators. The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized that Tehran remains committed to its proposal and is waiting for the mediators to convey the definitive positions to them, after which they will make a decision.
