Iran Strikes Back at Gulf States After Israeli Attack on Gas Field
Iran has launched retaliatory strikes against energy infrastructure in nearby Gulf states following Israel's attack on its largest gas field. The attack, which occurred Wednesday, targeted facilities in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement saying that these facilities had become 'direct and legitimate targets' due to their countries' involvement with Israel. The IRGC warned earlier that their nations would be responsible for any attacks on Iranian energy assets.
Among the targeted facilities was Qatar's Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas terminal, which is the world's largest. The attack caused extensive damage and fires, according to Qatar Energy.
The list of potential targets issued by Iran could impact over 1.25 million barrels per day of oil refining capacity in the region, as well as natural gas production.
