Iran Strikes Oil Tanker Attempting Strait of Hormuz Transit

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps has struck an oil tanker attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian state broadcaster. The ship, Togo-flagged Trend, was reportedly making an 'illegal attempt' to pass through the strait.

The Associated Press could not immediately confirm the report. However, Tehran has asserted control over the waterway since the US and Israel launched their war on February 28.

Separately, a ship security incident was reported 16 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, which lies on the other side of the strait. The crew was safe, but no environmental impact had been confirmed, according to United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations.

The US military has been guiding some commercial ships through the strait off Oman as the risk of Iranian attacks continues.
