Iran Strikes Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate as Iran claims it struck an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Iranian state broadcaster, the Revolutionary Guard Corps said that the Togo-flagged oil tanker, Trend, attempted to pass through the strait without authorization and was therefore destroyed.
The Associated Press could not immediately confirm this report. The UK Maritime Trade Operations warned earlier in the week that another tanker had been struck by an 'unknown projectile' while transiting out of the Strait of Hormuz, with the crew reported safe.
In related news, hundreds of thousands of people rallied in Tehran in support of the government and against the US and Israel. The protesters trampled flags of the US and Israel and chanted slogans such as 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israel.'
