Iran Strikes Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz Amid Escalating Regional Tensions
Iran claims it struck an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, according to state broadcaster IRIB, citing the Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Togo-flagged oil tanker Trend was allegedly attempting to transit through the strait without authorization when it was targeted.
The incident occurred on Thursday night, and Iran has warned vessels that attempt to pass through the strait without permission will face 'destruction.' This comes as tensions remain high in the region, with the US and Israel launching attacks against Iranian targets in February.
Meanwhile, South Korea is considering expanding its naval operation in the Gulf of Aden to protect its ships and oil-shipping routes. However, Seoul has ruled out sending troops to intervene in the conflict between the US and Iran.
