Iran Strikes Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Tensions

Iran has asserted control over much of the Strait of Hormuz since the US and Israel launched their war on February 28. According to Iranian state broadcaster reports, the country's Revolutionary Guard Corps struck an oil tanker in the strait, citing an 'illegal attempt' by the vessel to pass through without authorization.

The Togo-flagged oil tanker Trend was reportedly hit on Thursday night. The Associated Press could not confirm the report. Iran has warned that vessels attempting to transit the strait without permission will face 'destruction.'

Additionally, another tanker was struck by an 'unknown projectile' while transiting out of the strait on Wednesday, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations. The crew is said to be safe.
