Iran Strikes Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz Amid Rising Regional Tensions
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps has targeted an oil tanker attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, amid rising tensions in the region. The vessel, identified as the Trend, was struck by Iranian forces over what Tehran described as an illegal attempt to pass through the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key international shipping route for crude oil and other energy supplies, and this incident has added to concerns over maritime security and commercial vessel movement in the area. The Iranian state broadcaster reported that the Revolutionary Guard warned unauthorized vessels attempting to cross the waterway could face further action.
South Korea's President Lee Jae Myung announced that Seoul is reviewing measures to strengthen protection of its commercial shipping and crude oil shipments in the region, but said it would not deploy military assets that would involve the country in conflict. The development comes amid continuing tensions surrounding the wider conflict in the Middle East.
