Iran Strikes Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz Amid Widespread Protests

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for striking an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, citing an 'illegal attempt' to pass through the waterway without authorization.

The Togo-flagged oil tanker Trend was allegedly struck on Thursday night, but The Associated Press could not immediately confirm the report. The Iranian government has maintained control over much of the strait since the US and Israel launched a war in February.

In other developments, hundreds of thousands of people rallied in Tehran in support of the government, pledging to take up arms as 'Janfaday-e Iran,' or those who sacrifice their lives for Iran. The protesters trampled flags of the US and Israel, while chanting 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israel.'

In Yemen, hundreds of people rallied in northern areas in support of the Houthi rebels and to protest Saudi Arabia's accusation that they targeted Islam's holiest site, Mecca. The Houthi leadership has denied responsibility for the attack.
