Iran Strikes Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz, Thousands Rally in Support
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have struck an oil tanker, the Togo-flagged Trend, in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday night for attempting to pass through without authorization. The IRGC warned that vessels trying to transit the strait without permission would face 'destruction.'
The incident comes as hundreds of thousands of people rallied in Tehran in support of the government, marking the largest show of support since the US and Israel launched attacks in February.
Iran's government has been seeking to rally its people and stress national unity amid a worsening economy due to a US naval blockade of Iranian ports and new US sanctions. Participants at the rally chanted 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israel.'
