Iran Targets US Vessel in Strait of Hormuz Amid Escalating Conflict
A fresh wave of fighting has erupted in the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and the US. The conflict began on February 28th when the two countries launched attacks against each other, but a ceasefire agreement was announced in June.
However, since then, both sides have continued to try and inflict military and economic pain on each other. Last week, fighting resumed after a month of relative calm, with at least five people killed during a US bombardment of southern Iran.
The US has adopted a dual-prong approach to the conflict, responding militarily to attacks on the strait while targeting foreign financial institutions that handle Iran's money. The shadow fleet transporting Iranian oil is also being targeted in an attempt to ease growing economic pressures.
