Iran Threatens Economic Warfare Against US Amid Escalating Gulf Conflict
The six-month-old war between Iran and the US has escalated further as Tehran threatened economic warfare against Washington.
Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, announced that a new restricted zone will be established in the Gulf, which would extend from where the US blockade begins and encompass areas of the Gulf.
The zone would place any vessel entering the area on an Iranian sanctions list, according to Rezaei. He also warned that economic warfare would be met with a maritime exclusion zone across the Persian Gulf to the blockade perimeter.
Iran has continued to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global oil and gas supplies, despite US attempts to open it up.
