Iran has warned of retaliation against US energy assets in the Middle East after Washington's recent strikes on Iranian oil tankers.

In a social media post, Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Tehran would strike back at American oil and gas companies if they attacked its own assets.

'It's simple: the oil and gas production chain here is sprawling, accessible, and exposed. American oil and gas companies across these waters and facilities share that exposure. Strike our assets and you get struck,' he said.

Brent crude futures rose 0.35% to $97.34 a barrel by 00:00 GMT after Iran's threat, while US West Texas Intermediate crude jumped 1.26% to $92.63.
