Iran Threatens to Shut Down Oil Exports Amid Escalating Conflict

The escalating conflict between Iran and the US has raised concerns about potential new rounds of escalation in the Gulf, particularly after Washington threatened to impose 'the toughest sanctions in history' on Tehran.

Mohsen Rezaei, former Revolutionary Guards chief and secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, warned that if economic pressure continues, not a single drop of oil will be exported from the region, either through the Strait of Hormuz or the Persian Gulf.

Iranian attacks on shipping have already significantly reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which carried about one-fifth of global energy before the conflict began in February. Although some tankers have been able to pass through recently, volumes remain low, and Tehran has blacklisted 45 tankers for failing to comply with its rules.

The Iranian threat to shut down oil exports is a significant concern for the US and other countries, as it could lead to increased oil prices. The conflict also poses risks to Gulf states, which have been targeted by Iran in the past. Tehran has threatened to retaliate against any neighbors who take part in US efforts to strangle its economy with 'earthquake' force.
