Iran, US Negotiate Framework Deal to End Strait of Hormuz Conflict
The conflict in the Strait of Hormuz may be nearing an end, according to Iranian state television. A framework deal between Iran and the US could restore shipping through the strait to pre-war levels within a month. The proposed agreement would involve withdrawing US forces from Iran's vicinity, ending the naval blockade of Iranian shipping, and allowing Iran to manage ship traffic through the strait in cooperation with Oman.
The report stated that an unofficial draft of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is being negotiated between the two sides. However, the US has denied the report, calling it a 'complete fabrication' in a White House statement on social media. The issue of US troops in the region still needs further discussion.
Iran's government did not comment on the proposal. The nuclear program was also not mentioned in the report, which is seen as a key sticking point for the US. The conflict has killed thousands and caused an unprecedented oil supply shock, pushing up fuel costs.
