Iran-US Tensions Fuel Global Oil Price Surge
Crude oil prices have risen in global markets due to escalating tensions between Iran and the US, which are fueling concerns about potential disruptions to energy supplies.
As of August 18, Brent crude rose by 27 cents or 0.3% to $91.14 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) climbed by 42 cents to $85.04 per barrel.
The recent increase in oil prices is largely attributed to the growing uncertainty over a ceasefire extension between Iran and the US, which has been ongoing since July.
Market participants are increasingly concerned that prolonged hostilities could disrupt oil production, transportation, and regional energy supplies, leading to further price increases if tensions continue to escalate.
