Iran Waits for Official US Response After Trump Rejects Hormuz Proposal
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi acknowledged US President Donald Trump's rejection of a proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but accused him of making contradictory statements.
The Strait has been closed since February, disrupting global oil and gas supplies. Iran offered to reopen it within seven days if 'necessary conditions' were met.
Trump rejected the offer, saying the US already had 'total control' of the strait. He accused Iran of making 'half measures' and 'illusory deals'. The US ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, backed Trump's decision, calling it a 'right move'.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said economic pressure from the US was taking its toll on Tehran, with flights from Iranian airlines suspended in Turkey, Oman, and the UAE.
