Iran War Drives Gas Prices Over $4 Per Gallon in South Carolina
The ongoing war in Iran has led to a significant increase in gas prices across the United States. According to Greenville Online, South Carolina's average gas price jumped 16 cents in one week, nearing $4 per gallon. This is attributed to the disruption of oil distribution in the Strait of Hormuz due to the conflict.
The Iran war has pushed oil prices over $100 a barrel, resulting in higher gas prices for much of the nation. In South Carolina, diesel reached an all-time high of $6 a gallon, a $2.63 jump from 2025. According to GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan, Americans will spend more than $736 million more on fuel per day than they did in 2025.
The situation is expected to continue as the war in Iran persists. Former President Trump stated that oil prices would drop after the election, but this may be difficult to achieve if a resolution to the conflict is not found. The switchover from summer blend to winter blend fuel could also result in a temporary price bump.
