Iran War Triggers Worst US Grain Farmer Crisis in Decades
US grain farmers are facing their worst crisis in decades due to the ongoing war with Iran. The conflict has led to surging prices for diesel fuel and fertilizers, causing significant distress among US farms.
The situation is further exacerbated by low grain prices over the past few years, as well as the 'trade war' declared by Donald Trump's administration last year, which reduced grain exports.
John Hansen, president of the Nebraska Farmers Union, described the agricultural sector's current slump as its worst since the 1980s.
A recent report from the American Farm Bureau Federation projected that farms growing nine major crops will face losses of approximately $31 billion this year and $44.3 trillion won next year.
