Iran Warns Indian Ocean Could Be Next Flashpoint in Escalating Conflict
Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei's adviser, Yahya Rahim Safavi, warned that another US or Israeli attack could spread the conflict in West Asia to the Indian Ocean. The region is a key maritime link between West Asia, Europe, and Asian markets.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most important points of tension in the conflict. Nearly one-fifth of global oil and LNG supplies pass through this strategic waterway.
Rahim Safavi stated that the conflict had already expanded beyond the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea, and another attack could widen its geographical scope further.
