Iran warns of stronger response if US escalates military confrontation
Iran’s top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, reiterated on Sunday that the ongoing conflict with the United States has no military solution, as talks aimed at resolving the war remain stalled. The war, initiated by the US and Israel in late February, has seen intense airstrikes fail to produce a decisive outcome. In recent weeks, Washington has shifted its strategy from heavy bombardment to economic pressure, though tensions persist.
The central issue remains Iran’s efforts to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for Gulf oil and gas exports. On Sunday, a UK maritime agency reported that another tanker was hit by an unidentified projectile in the strait, highlighting the volatility of the region.
Araghchi warned at a gathering of foreign ambassadors that if adversaries escalate military confrontations, Iran would respond with even greater force. His statement underscores the escalating rhetoric amid the stalemate in diplomatic efforts.
