Iran Warns Tanker Away from Strait of Hormuz
On Monday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a commercial tanker received stern warnings from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as it approached the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC ordered the tanker to turn back or risk being targeted militarily. The tanker’s captain complied and altered course to avoid the area.
The incident occurred about 11 nautical miles north of Khasab, Oman. Maritime safety authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances, while the potential impact on global trade is being monitored.
Iran has not issued any official statement regarding the incident, leaving the reasons behind the warning unclear. The event has heightened international concerns over the safety of vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil supplies from the Arabian Gulf.
