Iranian Oil Minister Resigns Amid Economic Pressures
Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad has resigned from his post, according to official media reports. Hamid Boufard, the CEO of the state-owned National Iranian Oil Company, will take over as acting minister. The reason for Paknejad's resignation was not disclosed, but it comes amid ongoing economic pressures due to the seven-month war between Iran and the United States.
Paknejad assumed the role of Oil Minister in August 2024. Before stepping down, he assured that revenue from oil sales would continue. The Iranian constitution allows for an acting minister to manage a ministry for up to three months while the president nominates a permanent candidate for parliamentary approval.
The announcement was confirmed by an official from President Masoud Bezhakian's office, who stated that Boufard's appointment as acting minister followed the acceptance of Paknejad's resignation.
