Iran's Energy Sector Defies War: Oil Exports and Refinery Supplies Uninterrupted
Iran's energy sector has shown resilience despite wartime conditions, with oil exports and refinery supplies continuing uninterrupted for six to eight months.
A senior Iranian oil official stated that Iran has maintained crude supplies to its refineries while keeping up oil exports, highlighting the country's ability to withstand the effects of conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for energy shipments from the Gulf, remains under pressure due to US sanctions and military tensions. However, recent reporting indicates that oil flows through the wider Persian Gulf have recovered significantly from their lowest levels during the conflict, with exports reaching roughly two-thirds of pre-war levels.
The situation remains highly sensitive to any escalation, with shipping activity still below normal levels. The International Energy Agency notes that most crude transported through the Strait of Hormuz is destined for Asian markets, particularly China and India, which together receive 44% of those exports in 2025.
