Iran's Gulf Warning Triggers Rotation into 5 Key Stocks
Iran's warning to US energy assets in the Gulf has sent oil prices soaring past $91 per barrel, and investors are already rotating into a handful of stocks that stand to benefit from the situation. According to Reuters, Iran told investors on September 7 that US energy assets in the Gulf are vulnerable after the latest round of clashes.
Transocean, a rig lessor with a $7.1 billion backlog, is one such stock that stands to gain. CEO Keelan Adamson said that supply disruptions and strong demand for rigs will drive a multi-year upcycle for offshore drilling. The company's Q2 2026 numbers back him up, with revenue efficiency at 97%.
Another stock on the list is Diamondback Energy, a pure-play US shale barrel operator. CEO Kaes Van't Hof said that the disruption of oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz has triggered the largest supply shock in the history of the global oil market, and that restocking required to rebuild global inventories has structurally raised the floor for oil prices.
Marathon Petroleum, a refiner with strong performance in Q2 2026, is also on the list. The company's crack-spread trade has captured the spread between Gulf Coast refineries and US fuel prices.
Scorpio Tankers, which operates product tankers that carry gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel around the world, will benefit from rerouted traffic due to Hormuz disruptions. Frontline, a VLCC and Suezmax operator, has seen its earnings soar with crude oil exports dropping by 82% and idling days per VLCC increasing by 23%.
