Iran's IRGC Claims Oil Tanker Struck in Strait of Hormuz for Illegally Crossing

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has stated that an oil tanker, named 'Trend', was struck in the Strait of Hormuz after attempting to cross through it illegally. The incident occurred on September 17, according to a statement published by the IRGC's official news outlet Sepah News.

The tanker caught fire following the strike and was brought to a halt. The IRGC navy claimed that the vessel attempted to cross the strait 'illegally' after being 'deceived and provoked' by the US Army, warning that attempting illegal passage through the waterway will lead to 'destruction'.

The Strait of Hormuz has been under Iran's control since February 28, when it barred safe passage of vessels belonging to or affiliated with Israel and the United States following joint strikes on Iranian territory. The IRGC navy asserted that its forces remain in control of the strait with strength and will not let any 'aggressor' pass through.
