Iran's IRGC Navy Strikes 'Illegally' Passing Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) navy in Iran has claimed that an oil tanker was struck and brought to a halt after attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz 'illegally'. The Togo-flagged vessel, named Trend, caught fire following the strike.

The IRGC said the tanker was 'deceived and provoked' by the US Army into making this attempt. They warned that any vessels trying to pass through the strait without permission will face 'destruction'.

This incident comes after Iran tightened its grip on the Strait of Hormuz on February 28, barring safe passage for vessels belonging to or affiliated with Israel and the United States.
