Iran's Oil Exports to China Face Imminent Shutdown
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warns that Iran's oil exports to China will be cut off within two weeks, leaving the country without a major trade commodity. According to Bessent, only around 15 million barrels of Iranian oil remain for delivery due to the ongoing U.S. port blockade.
Bessent predicts that once these final consignments are dispatched, Iran will have 'nothing left to trade for anything,' effectively isolating it from the global economy. He emphasizes that the Strait of Hormuz is already open, with 15-22 million barrels being shipped daily.
The Trump administration's Operation Economic Outcast appears to be having the desired effect, as Bessent notes that Iran is 'feeling the pressure' and renewing its interest in negotiating a deal. However, President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's proposal, citing its terms as too lenient.
