Iran's Oil Minister Resigns Amid Escalating Regional Tensions
Iran's oil minister Mohsen Paknejad has stepped down from his position after seven months of escalating tensions between Iran and its adversaries. According to Iranian state media, President Masoud Pezeshkian accepted Paknejad's resignation and appointed Hamid Bovard, chief executive of the National Iranian Oil Company, as acting oil minister.
Paknejad served as oil minister since August 2024 and did not provide reasons for his resignation. Despite the turmoil in the region, he expressed hope that oil export revenues would continue to flow into the country. Bovard will take charge of the ministry on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is found.
Iran's oil industry has been affected by recent US and Israeli aggression, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and a blockade. These actions have contributed to higher fuel prices around the world.
