Iran's Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad has resigned due to personal reasons. According to state media, Hamid Bovard, chief executive of the government-owned National Iranian Oil Company, will take over as acting minister.

The resignation comes amid ongoing negotiations between Iran and the US regarding the lifting of sanctions on its oil sales. The US has imposed strict sanctions on Iran's oil exports in an effort to curb the country's nuclear program.

Iran is seeking a resolution to the sanctions, particularly with regards to the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane that connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
