Iran's oil power is not solely defined by its daily production volume or export levels at any given time, but rather by a combination of factors, including vast hydrocarbon reserves, production capacity, access to the Persian Gulf waters, and proximity to the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Hamid Nobahar, an economic expert, Iran's proven crude oil reserves stood at approximately 208.6 billion barrels at the end of 2024, with a production level of about 3.26 million barrels per day in the same year.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that if sanctions restrictions are lifted, Iran's crude oil production capacity could return to around 3.8 million barrels per day.

Nobahar emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between proven oil reserves, production capacity, actual exports, and market influence in assessing Iran's oil power.
