Iran's War Damage Spurs Industrial Shift towards Domestic Tech Capacity
The recent war against Iran has led to significant damage to its oil and gas infrastructure. In response, the country is undergoing reconstruction efforts that are driving an unprecedented industrial shift.
As part of this process, Iranian technology companies are being tapped to supply equipment, engineering services, and technical solutions to the oil and gas industry. The Oil Industry Innovation and Technology Park is playing a key role in coordinating these efforts by identifying technical problems and matching them with knowledge-based and technology companies that can develop solutions.
The objective goes beyond simply supplying replacement parts; it also involves adapting existing technologies, developing new products, and moving successful solutions into commercial production. This approach has led to the development of domestic capacity, as seen at South Pars, where 100% of the parts and equipment required for major maintenance have been supplied by domestic manufacturers.
The reconstruction effort is changing the relationship between the oil industry and technology companies. Instead of technology being developed first and a market sought afterward, industrial requirements are increasingly defining what companies develop. This shift has brought Iranian engineering and manufacturing capacity closer to the everyday technical needs of the energy sector.
