Iraq Deepens Energy Ties with Saudi Arabia Amid Hormuz Restrictions
Iraq is strengthening its energy ties with Saudi Arabia in an effort to diversify its export options and reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz. According to Oil Minister Bassem al-Abadi, his visit focused on cooperation in gas, energy, and electricity, as well as potential joint projects. Al-Abadi stated that both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral ties and maintain high-level coordination.
Iraq is working under Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi's guidance to sustain production and boost exports amidst the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which restricts crude shipments. This has led to increased efforts to accelerate pipeline upgrades and develop alternative routes. The move aims to reduce the country's reliance on Hormuz.
Al-Abadi emphasized cooperation in gas, energy, and electricity as part of the strengthened ties between Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Potential joint projects were also discussed during his visit. The agreement reflects Baghdad's broader effort to deepen relations across the region.
