Iraq Eyes Record-Breaking Gas Output at Ajeel Field
The Iraqi government has signed a new 25-year development contract for the Ajeel oil field in Saladin, aiming to increase gas production by over 122% and crude output by around 33%. The agreement between the state-run North Oil Company and KEPT, sponsored by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, targets a daily production of 300 million standard cubic feet of gas and 40,000 barrels of crude oil.
According to Deputy Oil Minister for Extraction Affairs Naseer Aziz, integrating extraction with processing and transportation will be essential in reaching the new levels. The existing infrastructure will need rehabilitation and additional facilities to handle the increased production.
A technical study will determine whether the North Gas Company's facilities can absorb the projected volumes or require further development. If successful, Ajeel could contribute significantly to Iraq's energy supply by directing gas towards power generation and domestic industries.
