Saudi authorities traced the launch site of an attack on their East-West oil pipeline to Maysan province in southeastern Iraq, near the Iranian border. The drone-launched attack occurred on Thursday, injuring several people and forcing Saudi Arabia to shut down the pipeline as a precaution.

Iraqi authorities have seized a drone-launching platform allegedly used in the attack and are working with forensic experts to identify those responsible. They also closed several border crossings with Iran for security inspections before partially reopening them for humanitarian traffic.

The incident has left Saudi Arabia in a defensive position, requiring 'real, practical steps' to deter future attempts, according to political analyst Salim Zakhour.
