Iraq Suggests Security Council with Iran, Saudi Arabia to Address Regional Tensions

Baghdad has suggested forming a joint security coordination council with Iran and Saudi Arabia to address tensions between the two regional powers.

Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji put forward the diplomatic initiative on behalf of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's government to stabilize the region where Iraq strives to manage its own turbulent security climate.

The move comes amid rising tensions, including Saudi Arabia intercepting multiple drones aimed at its oil facilities and capital, which Riyadh denounced as being backed by Iran-backed militias operating from inside Iraq.
