A drone attack from Iraq has set an oil pipeline on fire in Saudi Arabia, causing human and material damage. The East-West pipeline, a key route for transporting Saudi oil to the Red Sea, was shut down as a precaution after the blaze near Medina.

The Iraqi government acknowledged that the attack was launched from its territory and dismissed the commander of Maysan province as a consequence.

Saudi Arabia has frequently accused Iran-linked armed groups based in neighboring Iraq of targeting its oil facilities with drones. The Gulf Cooperation Council expressed concern over the incident, describing it as 'a dangerous escalation and an unacceptable threat to the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia'.
