The Speaker of Iraq's Parliament has asked his Iranian counterpart for special status on oil exports through the Hormuz Strait.

This request comes at a time when tensions between Iran and Western countries, particularly the US, are running high over issues such as nuclear proliferation and missile tests.

The Speaker, Mohammed al-Halbusi, made this request in a phone call to his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, according to Al Arabiya English.
