Iraq's Nineveh Province Seeks Investment for Oil Refinery
The Northern Nineveh governorate in Iraq is looking to attract investment for an oil refinery and production projects. According to Ahmed al-Abd Rabbo, the Energy Committee chief, this initiative could help develop the province's oil sector and pave the way for an integrated oil company.
The provincial council has requested that Baghdad exempt Nineveh from the conditions required to establish an oil company, which normally requires a production level of at least 100,000 barrels per day. Currently, Nineveh produces around 38,000 bpd.
Nearly 55% of Nineveh's oil production is concentrated in a few fields, including Qayyarah and Najma, south of Mosul. The province has recently expanded its oil sector by restoring production from several fields damaged during ISIS's occupation between 2014 and 2017.
