IRGC Claims Oil Tanker Struck in Strait of Hormuz After Attempting Illegal Passage

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran claims that an oil tanker, named Trend, was struck in the Strait of Hormuz on September 18. The IRGC says the tanker was attempting to pass through the strait 'illegally' after being 'deceived and provoked' by the US Army.

The IRGC warns that attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without permission will lead to 'nothing but destruction.'

This incident comes on the heels of a similar incident earlier, where another oil tanker, EL GAIA, caught fire after hitting naval mines in the same strait. The IRGC claims that warnings had been issued about the risks of using the 'illegal' route in the strategic waterway.

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) has warned insurance companies and classification societies against providing services to ships on its updated list of 'violating' vessels, including the Trend tanker.
