IRGC Claims Strike on Oil Tankers Transiting Hormuz Without Permission
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has claimed to have struck two oil tankers that attempted to transit the Strait of Hormuz via an unauthorized route. According to the IRGC, the vessels were influenced by 'incitement' from the US Central Command (CENTCOM) and had ignored Iranian warnings.
The IRGC said it warned shipping companies and marine insurers not to follow CENTCOM's guidance, as it would lead to incidents. The statement did not identify the vessels or provide details of the alleged strikes, but stated that four other oil tankers subsequently changed course and returned to their previous positions.
The IRGC also warned that 'the unlawful interference and orders' issued by the US military to vessels operating in the region 'will not go unanswered.'
