Israel Rejects Gas Export Limits Amid Future Supply Concerns
Israel's inter-ministerial committee on natural gas policy has rejected proposals to limit exports and increase domestic reserve requirements, prioritizing the country's position as a reliable energy exporter.
The decision seeks to preserve Israel's stable regulatory environment for international energy companies, despite growing concerns over future supply shortages. Under current regulations, Israel will retain its 440 billion cubic meter (BCM) domestic natural gas reserve requirement, but cumulative domestic demand is projected to reach approximately 515 BCM by 2036.
The committee recommended accelerating exploration for additional offshore gas resources within Israel's economic waters and called for a long-term national strategy to diversify the country's energy mix and expand renewable energy deployment. Energy Minister Eli Cohen stated that natural gas remains a strategic asset for Israel, supporting the economy and strengthening its regional position.
