Italy Seeks Fuel Production Boost Amid Supply Tensions
The Italian government has called for an emergency meeting with refiners to discuss ways to increase domestic fuel production amid supply tensions.
The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy summoned refining companies, including Eni and Saras, to a meeting scheduled for October 8 at Palazzo Piacentini in Rome.
The tensions come against an international backdrop of shifting oil flows, with the US creating a tariff mechanism that could expose India over Russian oil.
According to Article 1 of Italian decree-law No. 162, the excise duty on diesel fuel rose from 572.90 euros per 1,000 liters to 622.90 euros per 1,000 liters in effect from September 26 to October 5, an increase of 50 euros per 1,000 liters or roughly 5 cents per liter excluding VAT.
The meeting is not a commitment by companies to additional production, and the positions of the invited companies on their available capacity, supply constraints, and potential commitments are not established in the documents consulted so far.
