Italy's Flour Exports Boom as US Demand Surges
The Italian soft wheat flour market has experienced a significant boost in exports to the US, making it the largest buyer of this commodity. According to ITALMOPA, shipments to the US rose by 38% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year.
This increase in demand for Italian flour is attributed to its quality and popularity in premium segments, particularly among pizzerias and confectionery industries. The country's milling sector has also played a crucial role in meeting this growing demand.
Italy's soft wheat flour exports saw an overall growth of nearly 15% in the first half of 2026, reaching 202.65 thousand tons. If this pace is maintained, full-year shipments could reach around 400 thousand tons, surpassing last year's total of 362 thousand tons.
Italy has also seen increased exports to other key European markets, with Spain experiencing a 23% rise in imports, Germany an 11% increase, and France a 9% growth.
