Ivanhoe Electric Share Price Slips as Santa Cruz Project Faces Valuation Test
Ivanhoe Electric's (IE) stock price has been on a rollercoaster ride lately, and a new Preliminary Feasibility Study for its Santa Cruz Copper Project has added to the mix. The study updates reserves, costs, projected copper output, and future development milestones. Despite this, IE's share price is trading at around $9.99, significantly lower than analyst targets and the project's NPV of US$1.5b.
The study reveals that Ivanhoe Electric now has access to over US$250 million in cash, an undrawn US$200 million credit facility, and a preliminary EXIM Bank project letter for US$1.1b of potential Santa Cruz debt funding. This structure could limit equity dilution pressure and support future earnings per share once the mine is operating.
However, the company still faces significant challenges, including ongoing losses and the risk that any further delays to the Santa Cruz project could force extra funding on tougher terms.
