Jordan Aims to Supply Lebanon and Syria with Natural Gas Amid Regional Energy Needs
Jordan has announced plans to supply Lebanon and Syria with natural gas, aiming to strengthen regional energy security. According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jordan will provide a combined 6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, with Lebanon receiving approximately 2 million cubic meters and Syria around 4 million.
The supplies to Lebanon have not yet begun as the country works to repair and rehabilitate its gas networks. Natural gas for Lebanon will be provided through imported shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from global markets, which will be unloaded at the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the Port of Aqaba.
Jordan's domestic needs or energy supply security are expected to remain unaffected by supplying Lebanon and Syria simultaneously. The ministry emphasized that its strategy aims to diversify Jordan's natural gas supply sources, avoiding reliance on a single source.
