Jordanian Cabinet Approves Major Education and Energy Initiatives

The Jordanian Cabinet has approved several initiatives aimed at improving education and energy infrastructure in the country. One of the most significant projects is the construction of 30 model schools across the Kingdom, funded by a new corporate social responsibility initiative worth JD40 million. This follows the recent completion of 86 schools worth JD145 million, which replaced rented facilities and improved school schedules for the current academic year.

The Cabinet has also approved measures to build five technical schools worth JD25 million and awarded maintenance contracts covering 720 schools nationwide. Additionally, a new National Early Childhood Care and Development Policy has been drafted by the National Council for Family Affairs, aiming to improve family well-being, expand childcare access, and boost women's economic participation.

In the energy sector, the Cabinet accepted a plan to supply Lebanon with natural gas via Jordan's floating storage and regasification unit in Aqaba. This mechanism mirrors Jordan's ongoing gas supply to Syria. Domestic measures include extending customs duty and sales tax exemptions on sea freight costs for an additional six months and approving energy-efficiency upgrades for government buildings, expected to reduce state energy bills by 20 percent starting 2027.
