Journey Energy's Power Play: A New Dimension for Alberta Oil Producers
Journey Energy Inc., a Calgary-based oil and gas producer, has been making strides in its power generation ambitions. The company has spent two decades as a mid-sized Alberta oil and gas producer, but with its gas-fired power plant now exporting test electricity from the Gilby Facility, it's clear that Journey sees its future as an energy company, not just an oil one.
The company's core operations remain conventional light oil and natural gas production across central Alberta, but its power division is moving from concept to commissioning. The shift in focus is modest in scale next to the producing base, but it gives Journey's story a different shape than most of its Canadian junior and mid-cap oil and gas peers.
The company's recent quarterly disclosure showed net income of $18.5 million, or $0.27 per basic share, for the second quarter of 2026, alongside adjusted funds flow of $18.4 million and sales revenue of $63.2 million. Average production came in at 10,017 boe/d, split roughly 51% crude oil, 38% natural gas, and 11% NGLs.
