July Wheat Starch Prices Slip Amid Comfortable Supplies
US wheat starch prices declined in July as comfortable short-term availability and cautious purchasing outweighed increasingly supportive underlying wheat fundamentals. In early July, processors maintained steady grind rates, while imported material supplemented domestic supply and kept buyers well supplied.
However, seasonal maintenance at some US food manufacturers reduced immediate procurement of wheat starch, leaving transactions concentrated on contractual and near-term requirements. By month-end, sellers faced limited urgency from buyers and accepted more competitive terms to maintain volumes.
Demand for wheat starch across major applications remained mixed. Bakery, cereal, snack, and processed-food manufacturers continued routine procurement but generally avoided aggressive inventory building, keeping wheat starch spot demand subdued. Confectionery and modified-starch users provided relatively better support as manufacturers prepared for seasonal production and texture-modification requirements.
